As my hitch comes to a close on the Maury, it’s the perfect time to reflect upon the past 4 and a half months. Stay true to yourself, no matter what, never quit or let someone seemingly more powerful over you bring you down, no matter what, and above all, do what makes your soul feel liberated. I have had many laughs, and I made many friends. It takes a certain type of grit and courage to boldly sail the seas, and its certainly not easy; but its your shipmates, the laughs, and the little things that make it worth it and help pass the time. I find the more I sail, the more grateful I have become for the life that I live. I truly love the career I have embarked, and I wouldn’t change the journey that has brought me to the sea. A bean bag tournament, beer on the pier, laughs on the Bridge Wing, the occasional order out sushi to the ship, a jump in a Moon Pool, a fish, awestruck views: it’s the little things. It’s being the Mate throughout the night and knowing your crew is out having a good time, and all is well. Its having the crew all come out to the Gangway as you depart to wish you well. It’s the men and women who you meet on the seas that makes me grateful to sail. But now it’s time for the Bae, and the family, and I’m so ready for some wine and a massage!
