So, you can’t have sailed on the Maury and NOT have jumped in the Moon Pool!! So the 3AE, Ryley Corson, and I, with the help of 2M Al, took a leap right before I got off. Haha, so yes, as you can see in the video, I did hesitate for half a second, but oh well. Haha, above all, you can’t have a blog if you can’t laugh at yourself. 😜 I’ve got to say it was kind of fun. The ocean temp that day was 84deg so it ended up being a mix of warm water and cold due to the hull. Apparently, salt water is good for the body. Who knew?🤷♀️ Why the socks you might ask? Well, the metal of the hull has slits to climb out that are very sharp. It was a fun moment for sure.
For those that do not know, a Moon Pool is when the ship’s hull is open to the sea. Yes, that’s right! This ship has a free flow Moon Pool so that means the water level changes due to the sea conditions and draft of the ship. This was done in Port Canaveral, FL, which is environmentally protected. The water is really clear so you can even see the doors that open. These are operated with hydraulic pumps and locks that open the hull to ocean below.
Stay Salty!
