Matt and I spent Christmas together with a week long trip visiting the Homeier family at their home in Arkansas. Christmas is the best time to come to Searcy because the town square and local Harding College are well decorated. I’ve got to say how can you not like a town where the kids still run around and play in the yard?! Plus, everywhere you go smells like smoked barbecue! I’m a country girl at heart so Arkansas is my kind of place! The price of gas was $1.85, and Thrift Shops are a town favorite outing. Of course one can’t visit Arkansas without some good southern loaded fries, and fried pie. YUM!!
One day we took a walk down town and got to learn a bit of the history. The White County Court House was built in 1837. Next to the court house is the White County War Memorial can be found with each person’s name engraved. You will also find a Civil War Confederate Soldiers monument, established in 1917. While a monument like this can be controversial it is still important to stop and reflect on this part of American History.
Not only is there a historical town square there is also a local art alley. Any person can submit their designs and are given a place to paint on the wall. The designs range from portraits to abstract.
A holiday break to small town America with family and good food is a wholesome way to end 2018.
Stay Salty!
