Beaches AND Butterflies! What a girl’s dream! Spring is mating season for the Blue-Ridge King Crow Butterdly here on Guam. These are black butterflies with purple accents. I took a day to visit the Ritidian Wildlife Refuge on the north part of the Island. The refuge was started by US. Fish and Wildlife in 1993 in response to listing of several endangered birds on the Island. It was an amazing day! Better yet I got to see hundreds of butterflies in the tree line along the beach. The wildlife refuge helps to keep the beach clean and preserved endangered animals to include the butterflies, birds, and my favorite, sea turtles!! I definitely plan on spending more time here.
It was good to get off the ship and have a little beach fun! Thank you to Matt for the idea. This refuge has the ability to volunteer and take part of wildlife conservation. It’s a project worth being a part of. “Leave only foot prints, and take only pictures,” is a saying and at a place like this refuge you can see that taking the time to truly care for land around you, can make all the difference. If you want to help they have monthly beach cleanups on the first Saturday of each month.
